Knowing Oregon

We share stories by pursuing authenticity in an increasingly manufactured world.

Technology connects us immediately, yet we spend less time truly interacting with the planet. Screens bind us in isolation, presenting gilded stories, free from pain, thought, and humanity. As a result, we forego seeing each other in hurt, in joy, and openness. Genuine stories are underreported, but they’re the ones most of us feel. Knowing Oregon tells stories as a seed for thought, a way of understanding, and an exploration of connection over curation.

Our aim is to join you to nature—to humanity—by having conversations with those who share a close relationship with it, who’ve inspired others, and who’ve discovered awareness through life’s weathering. By honoring how others live, we see a more present version of life, one lived in accordance with nature and community.

Tradition by Kenji Shimizu Photography

Hamish Jackson is a potter living in Oregon who values the traditional way of pottery making. It takes more time and more effort to create one product this way but he has found value in digging local clay and using a wood fired kiln to create pieces that connect people to place.

The Art of Tea:

The Art of Tea features an adapted Chinese Gongfu "making tea with skill" tea ceremony with Madelaine Au. Madelaine is the founder of the Eugene Tea Festival, a local non-profit in Eugene, Oregon.

Forest of Silent Growth:

"We need to see ourselves as a part of the natural forest community whether on a weekend hike or a day sitting against an ancient tree. We need to sense the wonder of the complex forest ecosystem and be the guardians and spokespersons." – David Eisler
