An Iceland-Inspired Bridal Shoot on the Oregon Coast

Oregon is a stunning location for adventure elopements. Here the best photographs are made when we merge—comfortably or not—with the land and weather. A great appreciation for place can be born when we see ourselves held by nature.

The beauty and coarseness of Iceland is a major inspiration to me. Through many years of hiking and landscape photography I often find these lesser traveled areas around the Oregon Coast that remind me of Iceland.

Model Sierra Bayer, wore seashell jewelry with a vintage 70’s dress and I used some sailor “fancy work” to make the floral arrangement. Together, with the help from basalt rocks, ocean, and wind we brought the photoshoot to life.

Sierra Bayer stands over a pool of tadpoles (look closely for the small black specks). As the sun sets the sound of frogs, hidden within the rock, erupt to meet the symphony of sea and wind.

In this image I love how the rock leads us from the bottom left up to Sierra. She then continues the line up to the right by leaning back in a dramatic pose. One of my favorites for sure!

In the next square image you can see a group of seals sunbathing on a rock in the distance (look for the white blobs).

Toward the end of the photoshoot the cold began to settle in. The next set of square images are behind the scenes photos of Sierra and I by Kenji Shimizu. Thank you friend!
